The eighth International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Data Science (ICCIDS 2025) was inaugurated on 13th February 2025 by Dr. Magesh Chandramouli, Professor of Computer Graphics Technology at Purdue University Northwest and Fellow, Software Sustainability Institute, UK. His presence added immense value to the conference, setting an inspiring tone for the event.
The ICCIDS 2025 is an IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) event, organized by the reputed SSN Trust in the SSN Engineering College, Chennai, India. The conference provides an opportunity for researchers, engineers, developers, and practitioners from academia and industry to address experimental, theoretical work and methods in solving problems related to data science.
Inaugural Address: In his inaugural speech, Dr. Chandramouli emphasized the transformative impact of Computational Intelligence and Data Science in today's digital era. He highlighted the growing influence of AI, machine learning, and immersive technologies such as VR/AR in education, research, and industry. The highly visual, interactive VR approach to training complex tasks holds several cognitive advantages, allowing the trainee to connect largely abstract and concrete concepts, thus reducing cognitive load. With AR (augmented reality), the superimposition of task-relevant information on visualizations of the task helps the trainee develop spatial skills and acquire schemas, as well as encourages active participation in the training.
During the inaugural address, the annual report of the ICCIDS for 2025 and the conference proceedings were released.
Keynote Speech: Followed by the inaugural address, Professor Magesh Chandramouli delivered a keynote talk on "VR/Metaverse applications in computational & STEM education & training." His expertise in Virtual Reality and the Metaverse shone through as he seamlessly connected cutting-edge technological advancements with practical applications in education and workforce training. By illustrating real-world use cases and groundbreaking research, Professor Chandramouli highlighted how immersive technologies can revolutionize learning experiences, making complex STEM concepts more accessible and engaging. His presentation was not only informative but also thought-provoking, sparking discussions on the future of education in the digital age. His invaluable contributions to the field were highly appreciated by attendees, making his keynote a standout session at ICCIDS 2025.
During the 13th February afternoon session, the AR/VR research team of the department of CSE demonstrated various works done so far. Around six different projects were demonstrated. Professor Magesh Chandramouli's interaction during the session was truly commendable.
